Snow City Construction Begins In Moscow's Sokolniki Park

The construction of a snow city to adorn Russia’s capital, Moscow began yesterday. By January 10th this city will be completed at the Moscow’s Sokolniki Park. The snow town, spread over an area of 2,500 square meters, will consist of a hotel, a prison and a fitness centre. They will be constructed using nothing but snow and ice. 1000 meter cubes of snow and 500 ice blocks will be used in this feat.

This construction will be a part of the Moroz City “Festival of snow architecture”. The festival is traditionally celebrated every year in the winter months in Russia. It will be built by a team consisting of 20 sculptors and twenty teams of architects. The architects from Russia and overseas are coming together to create this marvel. The organizers #-Link-Snipped-# that the city will have more to offer than to just allow us to tour around. They say that the tourists will also be allowed to stay at the snow city. The tourists will also get to watch the sporting activities happening at the festival.

The snow festival tradition was started in the ages of Kings like Peter the Great. Also in 1740 a house was constructed using ice bricks pressed by iron and was displayed St Petersburg.
