We know that more than your friends, you trust your smartphone; and the latest development in technology will now enable your best friend to be emotionally intelligent! Researchers have developed computer algorithms that can detect your mood by listening to your voice. Well, the programs won't care about the meaning of the words, but pay attention to how you say them.

The speech recognition system being developed under the 'project bridge' is 81% accurate - and it's continuously being improved. The researchers say that the aim is to make the system speaker independent - one of the drawbacks of the current systems. We'd expect the technology to mature soon and find its way to the smartphones, so that you can develop an emotional bond with Siri; if you haven't yet.
