SkyDrive Windows 8 App & Desktop Sync Together Aim To Be "World's Hard Drive".
Microsoft has rolled up its sleeves to make their personal cloud service 'SkyDrive' the world's hard drive. That is, a personal cloud service tightly integrated with all the Windows machines (both desktops & mobiles) that would sync seamlessly with all the future gadgets without needing the 'patchwork' of third-party apps & services, file conversion, transferring files from one cloud to another etc. Microsoft's engineers in their official #-Link-Snipped-# outlined their vision for the personal cloud computing & storage.

Microsoft plans to integrate the cloud experience in Windows 8 with a SkyDrive 'Metro Style' app. It also is developing tools to integrate SkyDrive in Windows Explorer on the desktop and ability to fetch remote files through SkyDrive.com. The desktop software will work fine on Windows Vista & 7 as well and let you move across machines without losing access to your files. That is, if you buy a brand new computer and install a fresh copy of Windows 8 on it; all you'll have to do is sign-in with your Windows Live credentials and all your files will be available on the new machine. You no longer will have to copy files to USB drive or burn DVDs to port your files to new machines.
It now looks quite clear that Microsoft's SkyDrive aims to eliminate the need of services like Dropbox - which is quite popular among users. The customer preview of the app will be available later this month. Are you excited?
