Site Suggestions: Few things that could be done

A quick navigating around the site did not show me the suggestion section. So I am shooting it here. Moderators are welcomed to move the thread wherever fitted.

By the way, these are just my observations and suggestions. The points are not intended to hurt anybody or CE.

1) Some CE threads like the one with Project Titles, looks odd. If we say no free launch and Invite the people to get it, does not make sense. Such threads are looking like quick posts by one month old site, expecting some quick traffic.

2) Too many main forums: Front page is looking cluttered and unorganized IMO. Some forums could be grouped in a main forum as sub forums.

3) Many technical threads seems to be going unanswered! You can use something like a ticket system to mark if a particular question is answered satisfactorily.

    Moving the thread to site related questions and answers section.

    1. We never intended to make this site a project ideas hub. But throughout history we found out that the student-audience visiting here was always looking for project ideas and seminar topics. In fact, we had to create a new section for the project ideas and seminar topics because at one point in time 9/10 threads in technical discussion sections (computer science, electronics, mechanical) were all asking for project ideas.

    That said; we provide the ideas and a general brief about them. We don't offer ready-made projects or downloadable PPTs. But if people want to share them; we do not stop them from doing so. Yes, it does generate traffic; but most of the people who come here for project idea don't stick around for longer times.

    2. We've expanded the main forum list gradually and as you can see, there's lot of clubbing already. But any suggestions on organising things better are welcome. We specially need suggestions on the non-technical discussion forums.

    3. Currently we use a ticket system via 'Report' to let members inform us about spam. We may setup the thread prefixes like we have in the apps / gadgets section. Any ideas on this are welcome.

    I actually liked the idea of "Marking the thread as solved". When the author feels their question is answered, they can mark the thread as solved which adds to the title of the thread like [SOLVED] THREAD TITLE HERE

    This will be very beneficial for the other people having same doubts. They can know at the first view that the information given in such a thread has solved a similar problem as theirs.

    I've seen it work most of the times on technical troubleshooting forums. I'm bit skeptic about having that label on threads in our technical discussions. Given that most of the new members don't even know how to provide a title to their discussion; I believe the feature will be misused more. But if large number of people demand it; we can introduce this.

    Some forums are reorganized which gives a fresh look to the forum. Congrats!

    Here is something of a typical template bug which you can think off.

    Open community of CE in a new tab, and dont be biased about the theme. Do you see sub forms with main form?
    I want to post in Site suggestion: I need two clicks if I know the path. If sub forms are shown with small font along with the main forum, then it becomes easier.

    This bug will not allow you to maintain a hierarchy which we were so used to!

    Many does not know the quick link on Navigation Menu. You can also create a simple link to the plugin in main Menu IMO.

    #include <stdio.h>
    void main()
    {
    printf("hello");
    }
    There is no syntax highlight . CE being an Engineering forum, could work on this issue.

    While Posting, it needs two clicks for Preview. Edit the Editor template and add the preview button as main option.

    Again these are my humble suggestions. Cheers 😀

    Keep you mouse over any thread link and keep it there! You will see Thread summery Ajax is popping up the window and closing it. Debug using Debugger and you will see that Once it is queried, than it uses the cache. Which means it is consuming my Internet Bandwidth if I happen to forget the mouse over a thread link. CE is BIG now, you must create a checklist form, versionize the forum. Ask some of the members to come up with bugs. Put that into checklist and try to solve it. When you have many features , Update to major version. Else it should be minor one. Better this way IMO.

    Facebook Connect : If I am logged in to my facebook, and if I click the community link, its logging me automatically. Now that is annoying. I may choose to scan the forum anonymously some times . I dont get that option. So when I enter CE, I am virtually logged in all the time. Why should it be so?

    [I correct Myself. Its just a Cookie Issue. I have figured it out]

    I agree. In fact, we're slowly migrating to eliminating the sub-forums. But for the existing sub-forums, we'll display them with smaller font. I'm noting this down.

    Not sure. If you're composing the first post of a thread, the preview button appears and requires a single click. The quick reply does not need preview; because it's a 'quick reply' and most of the text you're typing out is visible.

    I hope I understood correctly. If not, please elaborate.

    I didn't get the bandwidth issue. The chances of anyone keeping the mouse over a forum / thread link are very less and it only consumes a few bytes / kilobyes. Not an issue, I'd like to believe.

    This, actually, is a feature offered by Facebook. On CE, connecting your CE account with Facebook is completely optional. Manage your settings and you can de-link your account from Facebook. That way you won't be automatically logged in to CE when you visit the site.

    I however think a lot of people find this feature useful. It works the just same on other websites with Facebook facility as well. As you found out, it about cookies 😀

    #-Link-Snipped-# this feature is really a boon in many cms related forums there i found this helping us out more and also when we are looking for info the whole info can be clearly got from the solved threads
