Siemens & Volvo To Build Better Electric Engines In Volvo C 30 Electric Cars

Siemens and Volvo - both technology giants have teamed up to offer better electric engines to the mankind. The Swidish Volvo and German Siemens engineering teams will collaborate to design and develop drive technology, power electronics and vehicle charging stations. It's expected that that first set of vehicles will hit the test roads by end of 2012. The final units are expected to be incorporated in Volvo C 30 Electric cars. Better battery technology, electric power train and efficient charging units are the key drivers in the green locomotion technology. Simens is simultaneously working on industrializing the production of hydrogen for fuel cells. The goal is to turn the temporary excess energy from renewable power generation into green hydrogen. The electric motors to be developed by Siemens for Volvo cars will be very compact and peak power output of 108 kilowatts with a maximum torque of 220 Newton meters. Siemens will also design on-board and off-board charging systems.
