RS 232:
It is single ended data transmission mode.
It has cable length limited to 50feet.
It has the data transfer rate of 115.2 Kbits/sec.
Widely available and low cost.
It is widely used for connecting computer peripherals.
RS 422:
It is a differential data transmission mode.
It has longer cable length upto 4000 feet.
It has higher data rate about 100 kbps.
It is less subjected to noise.
It has one transmitter can be connected to 10 loads on a bus.( I t is multidrop type of network)
It is high cost and not widely used as RS 232. I t has its own applications such as for longer distances. -

The actual data rate of RS 422 is 10Mbps
