  • Big Boss Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio telecom is leaving no stone unturned to enter the Indian 4G markets with a bang. We've written about Reliance 4G a lot of times, and the latest update ensures that Indians will soon be able to access not only HD videos over the smartphones and tablets but also what's called HD Voice (Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband speech codec). Reliance Jio has obtained approval for VoLTE service by paying a nominal fee of Rs. 1673 crore in addition to Rs. 440 crores as performance bank guarantee along with Rs. 22 crore as financial bank guarantee.

Our readers may recall that Reliance Jio is the only company in India that has access to pan-India 4G spectrum - block of 20 MHz in the 2.3 GHz band. Reliance has already began testing their services with a limited (~10,000) set of users located in Mumbai, Jamnagar & Delhi and it's expected that once the tests are successful, Reliance will launch their 4G networks in Reliance 4G To Roll Out In Assam! first.

Besides Reliance Jio, Airtel's one of the major players in Indian 4G scene. Airtel's already got a big lead over its rivals by becoming the first telecom operator to offer 4G services in India. It's expected that other operators will jump into the game in coming months, but none of them is as bullish as Reliance Jio. Expect pricing war to begin in 2014.
