Up until now virtual 7.1 surround sound could only be achieved with the help of expensive headsets that have multiple drivers inside them to create a surround sound environment but Razer has now come up with a software implementation of this technology with the Razer Surround that brings 7.1 virtual surround to any stereo headset for free. The audio engine that has been released for Windows is a complementary add-on to the company’s Synapse 2.0 application. The software has been claimed to provide better surround sound than its hardware counterparts as its settings can be altered by the user depending on his/her preferences. Additionally the software stores the user settings on the cloud, which means when you are out with your mates in an Internet Cafe indulging in a game of Counter Strike you do not have to spend extra time in calibrating the settings, just log-in to your Razer account and the software does the rest.

Other features available in the software are Bass boost for the extra thump, sound normalisation to reduce sudden loudness, voice clarity and normalisation for clearer voice communication in multiplayer games and the usual custom and preset graphic equaliser settings. The software will be available for free till the end of this year and after that you have to shell out 19.99 USD. I tried out the demo available on the website and I was impressed with its capability. Now though it’s your turn, head over to this #-Link-Snipped-# and let us know about your experience with the software.
