Preliminary Experiments for Control of a Induction Motor fitted with Separate Stator
Preliminary Experiments for Control of a Induction Motor fitted with Separate Stator Tooth Coils
The purpose of this project is to carry out the initial experimental investigations into the control of an induction motor in which the conventional set of distributed three-phase windings has been replaced by a set of individual and separate coils, one on each tooth of the stator. Corresponding to this, the usual six-switch inverter is replaced by a power electronic circuit comprising as many electronic switch pairs as stator slots. A prototype circuit has already been constructed but needs testing. The advantages of this arrangement are
several power electronic switch failures could be tolerated by changing the currents in coils connected to the remaining good switches to achieve virtually the same rotating magnetic field
mosfet switching transistors could be used instead of IGBTs, permitting a higher switching frequency and therefore smoother operation
the number of pole pairs in the machine could be changed by software
