P-Type Transistor Uses Germanium To Beat Commercial Rivals With 4x Speed

This news update will definitely interest the Electronics engineers all over the world. The electronics enthusiasts at MIT have developed a p-type transistor in the labs that is 4x faster than the commercial rivals. Last month, the researchers presented the new transistor at IEEE's Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM) with the highest 'carrier mobility' ever measured. The carrier mobility, you ought to know, is basically how fast the charge carriers move in presence of electric field. The new transistor is 2x faster than the previously developed experimental p-type transistors and 4x faster than those available in the markets. Engineers achieved this never-seen-before performance by replacing silicon with germanium & implementing the trigate design.
