Ovelin’s WildChords - Learn Guitar With iPad App
Many people interested in learning music instruments eventually give up on this hobby because of the tiring and boring exercises or practice sessions in the beginner stage. These exercises seem to be pretty uninteresting and sometimes downright tedious. Also, the fact that your favorite songs sounds horribly although you are hitting the exact notes adds salt to the wounds. As a result, the motivation level falls and many of them drop out. Many of such frustrated guitar learners then try their riffing skills on the famous Guitar Hero game, so that they feel like rock stars. However, in reality, they know it as a matter of fact that their guitar skills are limited to the video game in the virtual world. So following the footsteps of this bestselling game, a startup called Ovelin in Finland has launched an app for the iPad that will let you learn the guitar in a fun way. This game, called the WildChords lets you learn guitar while playing a game on your iPad. Download the game on your iPad, get your acoustic or electric guitar and start strumming as per the game’s directions. The app recognizes the chords that are being played by you so that your guitar becomes your game controller with the help of a super cool hi-tech audio technology.

Wildchords
The game is being inspired by the famous childhood story of the ‘Pied Piper of Hamelin’. In this game, you will find yourself crowded by the wild and exotic animals that have escaped from a nearby zoo. Your mission is to get back all the animals in the zoo by hypnotizing each animal with a different set of chord patterns. So by correctly playing the chords you save the village and restore normalcy to it. Each game level is a one minute exercise with the difficulty increasing with every level. The gameplay and animation will make this app a smash hit for the young learners.
Ovelin founders Mikko Kaipainen and Christoph Thür that the motivation for this game came from their personal experience. Both of them are engineers with no music background but with a desire to learn guitar. However, they soon found out that the devotion and long practice sessions required for becoming a pro guitarist was not their cup of tea and they decided to leave it half way through. It was then that they decided to build an app that will help the guitar enthusiasts to learn the instrument without getting bored or frustrated. So they teamed up with and hired a few signaling experts, music teachers, game developing geeks etc. and came up with this awesome game. The game levels resemble simple and short homework assignments. And this strategy has worked out pretty well for Ovelin. It has received accolades from a large number of critics and users. Last week at the European Learning Game Competition, it was honored with the “Best Game†award. Also, in a few days the Finnish developers will be presenting WildChords at the Aalto Venture Garage for attracting investment and funding from various sections of the industry.
Presently, WildChords is available only for iPad but an android version is in the pipeline. Also, the game will be launched for other music instruments in a short span of time. Check out the video below for more details:
