Oppo F5 Youth With 16MP Front Camera Arrives In India For Rs. 16990

Oppo’s principle behind its smartphones has been as simple as its ‘Camera Phone’ tagline. It focuses mainly on the camera especially the front one to appease the selfie-manic audience. This time the company has even gone as far as marking one of its smartphones as ‘Youth’ by which it means a lightweight variant both in terms of specs and price. The Oppo F5 Youth which #-Link-Snipped-# about two weeks ago in the Philippines has made its way to India. First things first, it is slightly cheaper than it was expected to cost. The Philippines price tag was around Rs. 17,900 but here in India you can buy one for Rs. 16,990.

The Oppo F5 Youth knows its audience who aren’t bothered with high speed performance but want good cameras. That is why the Oppo F5 Youth has a 16MP front camera and it is not your average run-of-the-mill high resolution sensor, it has got some brains behind it. You see the Oppo F5 Youth’s front 16MP sensor comes with AI. You might have read about this AI when we covered the #-Link-Snipped-# which has an even larger 20MP front camera. The AI uses complex algorithms to accentuate your facial features based upon your skin tone, skin type and even your age to give the best natural looking selfie. Just like the Redmi Y1, the Oppo F5 Youth has a beauty-iris tool that adds sparkle to your eyes to make them pop in the selfie. To highlight the contour on your face, the Oppo F5 Youth uses 200 positioning spots. The front camera on the Oppo F5 Youth has a large f/2.0 aperture to let in more light information for well lit selfies. The Oppo F5 Youth does miss on the front selfie flash and as to make do with Oppo’s screen flash feature. Lastly, the bokeh effect where you stand apart from the background has also been included.

If you are not interested in selfies, the Oppo F5 Youth still has plenty to offer. The Oppo F5 Youth just like many new smartphones comes with a bezel-less display. You have a 6inch Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that looks bigger than it reads on paper owing to its bezel-less design. The Oppo F5 Youth’s rear camera has a resolution of 13MP and it has the Oppo’s homegrown Expert Mode that lets you minutely adjust settings and the Ultra HD Mode that stitches images for a huge resolution shot. The rear camera also supports Phase Detection Auto Focus. Just underneath the rear camera you find the fingerprint sensor. Apart from fingerprint sensor you can use your face to unlock the phone. The face unlock feature is not as sophisticated as the iPhone X but it still gets the job done.

While the looks and camera are worth praising, the performance does not manage to stand up to our expectations. The Oppo F5 Youth runs Color OS 3.2 which is based on Android 7.1 (Nougat) with the help of a MediaTek 6737T chipset that houses a 2.5GHZ octa-core ARM Cortex A53 CPU, ARM Mali G71 MP2 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The internal memory is also average as compared to other smartphones in this price range; the Oppo F5 Youth has a 32GB internal memory which can be expanded with the help of microSD cards to up to 256GB. The Oppo F5 Youth is powered by a 3200mAh battery which can last for about a day and half on average use. The Oppo F5 Youth has all the connectivity options and sensors you expect from a smartphone in this range.
