OpenViBE2 To Help ADHD Treatment By Applying Brain Computer Interface
The OpenViBE2 project supported by Franceâs National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control, and 9 other commercial partners including the likes of Ubisoft, Emotiv, Black Sheep, and Kylotonn etc. showcased an open source software platform to design and test Brain Computer Interfaces at the ongoing Futur-en-Seine event in Paris last week. Apart from finding a prominent place among gaming applications, the project focuses on the use of BCI to help children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) treatment and enhance their performance.

OpenViBE and CLARTE have tapped on to BCIâs ability to harness the brain's activity to command a computer to perform the required actions by creating a game which interacts with the non-attention part of the brain. In the game, an âout of focusâ cartoon plays on, while the protagonist is in a classroom buzzing with several activities. The game requires children with ADHD to focus attentively to view the cartoon clearly, and earn points when they satisfactorily perform the task assigned by the class teacher, involving precise handling of moving objects which require constant focus and clear understanding of the task.
Check out this video to know how the game functions:
