Octopus Limb Robot

Hi there
I have been assigned a project to design a robot arm. The arm will pick and place objects using suction effect, similar to the limb of an octopus.
I really dont know how to begin with it. Someone please give me some idea to start it.

    Do post more of the needs and the weight of substances you need to lift by the suction force
    Also tell the size and the power rating of the bot in your design

    Post also the purpose of you making the robo arm Is it a part of a bot or a stand alone one

    This is the problem, I have no idea about all these specifications.
    It is just an arm, not part of any robot. This is just to show that objects can also be lifted using the suction effect, so this model will be lifting only light weight objects.
    So please tell me the specification of components likely to be used.
