Engineers at NXP Semiconductors have found out a technique to eliminate the 'cold' white from the LED bulbs and bring back the old 'Yellow' back, which most of the older generation is fond of. The company's won 15 patents in the process. NXP calls the technique as 'Sensorless Sensing'. Radu Sudeanu, one of the senior scientists who worked on the project says that LED lights have always had a 'hospital white' which the consumers didn't like. Now the company has the ability to produce a color that lies between amber and white.

The elimination of the white was made possible by combining of three techniques: combination of the black body radiation curve of the traditional incandescent bulb with that of a logarithmic light dimming technique and then making suitable corrections in the temperature variations.
While the technique can find applications in the automotive, aviation and industrial LED applications; we're curious to know how many of our crazy engineers would go for a yellow LED than the traditional white?
