nVIDIA's setting the floor on buzz at the consumer electronics show (CES) 2013. The leading graphics company has just launched a handheld gaming system, called nVIDIA Shield. The device has a 5", 720p retina like (Update: 1280 x720 resolution at 294 dpi) multi-touch display and what's inside is more interesting. The gadget includes Tegra 4 processor capable of driving a 4k display via HDMI to external displays. The company has also developed an audio system which it says is capable of beating the rival 'beats audio' system.

The gadget is powered by a 33 Wh battery which delivers from 5-10 hours of play-time and close to a day of full HD video playback. There's a SD card slot which lets you extend the storage and the whole thing runs on Android (<del>version not known yet</del> Jelly Bean). nVIDIA pointed out that it's bare bones Android with no skin. Few of the Google Android native apps are also included.
What impresses us is that the Shield is capable of streaming content from Windows 8 PC coupled with GeForce GTX 650 or higher card over the Wi-Fi. The game controller looks very similar to the one you get with XBOX.
nVIDIA has not yet unveiled the price of the Shield. All we know is that the product will be launched in US & Canada in the second quarter of this year. Interesting stuff indeed, at CES 2013!
