  • Nvidia's portable gaming console called the Nvidia Shield is soon receiving an update that will make life awesome for gamers because it features compatibility with increased resolution for select compatible PC games via streaming. Nvidia's GameStream functionality that was first outed in October 2013, can play Android games found in the Play Store, stream PC games from your Nvidia-powered desktop, or act as the middle man in streaming games from your PC to your TV. It was very well received but the resolution allowed was 720 pixel resolution at 60 frames per second. Nvidia shield's latest update over-the-air (OTA) is going to witness an amazing 1080p streaming support which just means a wide range of game titles will now arrive on your HDTV screen. Officially supported 1080p, 60 FPS games include Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins, Battlefield 4, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, Dishonored, Metro : Last Light, Crysis 3, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Shield's got a 5-inch HD multi-touch LCD display and a wireless Bluetooth controller that sports the ease-of-use feature. In the December #-Link-Snipped-#, NVIDIA has also made additional adjustments to the Gamepad Mapper of the Shield. Now Shield users can map any touchscreen game function to a physical button on the console-grade SHIELD controller. For example, if a platform game requires repeated upwards swiping to jump, jumping can instead be mapped to ‘A’. With the December update, that functionality is extended to mapping gyroscope, motion-based movements to physical controls. In Temple Run and Bike Race, for instance, you are required to angle your device to the side to dodge enemies and obstacles, or rotate your bike for the perfect landing. Now, these unwieldy movements can be mapped to analog thumbstick movements, enabling you to map a leftwards lean to a leftwards push of the analog thumbstick.

Nvidia also announced its GRID cloud streaming. Now users are allowed to play PC games on their Shield without PC access - especially for Shield owners in Northern California. You'll need a 10 Mbps download speed, a home network with 40 ms or less ping time to the GRID cloud gaming in San Jose. So, who here is looking forward to the Nvidia Shield December update?
