  • With the advent of the smartphones and a beeline of apps, users are shifting from the traditional mobile web to the app oriented approach. With Apple’s App Store and rival Android Market offering a host of apps for everything from maps to music, movies, health tips, horoscopes etc., the search engines have got to adapt to this changing trend. Yahoo has decided to enter the fray with its new products that will help you find the best apps for your work and entertainment. The web giants have decided to launch search engines for iPhone, Android and for desktops also. The iPhone app finding tool is called Yahoo! AppSpot. It seems like any other app discovery tool and will have to compete with a number of successful startups like Chomp, Appsfire, Do@, etc.
#-Link-Snipped-#It initially scans all the existing apps with you so that they are not repeated in the search results and it also uses this information to give you better related apps. Appspot also has a feature that provides you with the daily recommendations and most downloaded apps in the various genres like gaming, travel, music, health, etc. It is having the awesome and now widely used slot machine rolling User Interface. You can also hunt for apps by entering keywords. The search results depending on the title, popularity, etc. The users claim that though the results are not terrible, they are not also fantastic. However, they are improving and relatively better than the iTunes. Also, AppSpot is faster and gives more results. For example, it gives not only top 100 apps when you are searching for recommendations but much more than that. It helps because the App Store now has some 425,000 applications. The Android app discovery engine works in a similar fashion except that it searches for the Android compatible apps.
With Yahoo entering the market, the competition has just got tougher and the rest have to raise the bar for staying and excelling in this domain now. Anyway, the consumers are getting the maximum benefit so enjoy the app finding experience.
