Global news channels like CNN and BBC World News often seek assistance of Microsoftâs Skype to interact with newsmakers and commoners all around the world. These video calls however suffer from glitches like mismatched aspect ratio and inferior quality. To address these problems, Microsoftâs recently acquired broadcast partner Cat and Mouse to work on a new hardware and software solution that would cater to the needs of broadcast professionals. Skype TX technology allows broadcasters to integrate Skype video calls into a studio environment.
Microsoft says in its announcement that the Skype TX hardware and software can be easily set up. The hardware works on converting a regular Skype video into full frame HD-SDI broadcast quality video format. The software works on removing the audio glitches associated with lags. This broadcast quality video is free of audio/visual distractions such as call notifications and ads and the aspect ratio is same as that of the broadcasterâs. The HD-SDI video can also be sent back to the caller. The platform also allows operators to handle multiple Skype calls on a single interface. So you can expect the number of people in a prime time news discussion to go up very soon.
The technology will be arriving for broadcasters in 2015 at an undisclosed price.
