New Port In Jordan To Be Constructed By BAM

BAM International has been awarded the contract to build the new port in Jordan. The new port will be situated 15 miles south of Aqaba Port of Jordan. This €50 million (£42 million) port will be close to the Saudi Arabia border. It will be a joint venture by BAM and Jordanian company MAG.

The project will include the design and construction of four berths with 800m quay wall, revetment works, a break water, marine services, pontoons. The land reclamation and dredging works (800,000 m3) is also within the scope of the project. The work will also include the construction of two intake pipes and an outfall pipe.

The Client is Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC). Its CEO HE Mohammed Turk #-Link-Snipped-# “The commencement of the Package 1 Marine Works in the southern area of Aqaba is the first step towards implementing the New Port of Aqaba and ADC will continue tendering and implementing the remaining packages in parallel. The marine works is the main package in the new port project and shall contribute to develop Aqaba and transform it into a world class business hub and leisure destination.”

The project that BAM is currecntly working on in Jordan is the construction of the extension of the ACT container terminal. The new Jordan port project is expected to start in January 2012 and finish within 24 months.
