MyVoice - A Device That Translates Sign Language
A team of students from University of Houston have formulated the concept and prototype of MyVoice, a device that reads and translates the motion to distinct words. This project stood proud at first position among student projects at the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), Gulf Southwest Annual Conference.

#-Link-Snipped-#'s concept stresses over a hand-held device equipped with a built-in microphone, speaker, soundboard, video camera and a monitor. This is then kept on a hard surface where it registers a user's sign language motions. When done, it later voices this sign language in the room via an electronic voice. Similarly, it would record a person's voice and translates these words into sign language motions, which is then broadcasted on a monitor screen. This device surely breaks down the barrier between the people who can speak and people with hearing-impairment, and can be very functional in learning their thoughts and needs.
