Multipurpose Solar Charger Electronic Circuit + Questions
CEans, My dear friend Dr. Abheek Ghosh is planning an expedition to Arunachal and wants to design & fabricate a multipurpose solar charger. Though he's a doctor by profession, he's got some engineering genes in it - and wants to develop the charger on his own - and he needs your help. I'm posting an email he shared with me and I'd request you to help him out. I've asked Abheek to create an account on CE so that he can ask questions all by himself. Here it goes -
Here is my exact requirement for the solar charger :
the main requirements of the device :
1) it should be portable and not very bulky
2) I should be able to carry it with me on my hikes and backpacking
expeditions
3) The device should be able to charge all my devices (including a 13 inch
laptop if possible)
4) The charger should be able to quickly charge my devices. for eg: my ac
mobile charger charges my mobile phone in 2 hours, this charger should be
able to charge my phone and other devices in similar time frame or maybe
take slightly longer time.
5) the charger should use components that are not too costly and easily
available incase I need to change any component in the future
6) the charger should have the system of directly charging my devices from
the sun ; and also have a system of storing the sun's charge in a (not very
big) accumulator battery from whilh my devices could be charged in the
darkness hours
6) the whole thing should not be too costly to fabricate.
I have found this circuit design which as per the writeup serves my purpose
to the last letter
#-Link-Snipped-#

The various suggestions that I got for this are :
*"....use multiple small sized solar cells , paste them on a rubber mat ( I
have identified canvas as a substitute so that i can fold it away) ,
connect it to a multiple voltage output charge controller , bypass the use
of an accumulator battery and an inverter and directly use a connecting
cable out of the charge controller to my respective devices. "*
*".....use a solar inverter..."*
Do let me know if you can help me get this thing custom made.
What is your opinion about this project ? Doable easily ?

We'd appreciate any help you can offer, thanks!
