  • Mozilla Firefox is literally on fire when it comes to its operating system. Mozilla's new Firefox OS Tablet has been making rounds of the global technology headlines ever since the first week of January when the company wrote on its #-Link-Snipped-# about the things that we could look forward to when it comes to the blazing hot OS. Firefox OS takes proud in the way it is developed by empowering Web technologies and the Web’s principles of openness and competition at every layer of the stack. Mozilla has now revealed a Firefox OS contribution platform to accelerate the development of Firefox tablets and the supporting ecosystem. This will be made possible by giving dedicated contributors the access to resources and reference hardware, initially with tablets from Foxconn. The great news here is that, Mozilla's Director of Firefox OS - Mr. Asa Dotzie has revealed the hardware specs of the Foxconn-made reference Firefox OS tablet. Let us take a look at them.

The reference Firefox OS tablet gets the Wi-Fi powered model InFocus New tab F1. Running on the 1.0GHz Quad-core A31 (ARM Cortex A7) processor with PowerVR SGX544MP2 graphics processor, the tablet feaures 2GB DDR3 memory and 16 GB Flash Hard Disk. With a 10.1 inch screen with capacitive multi-touch display at 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, the Firefox OS Tablet sprots 5 megapixel camera on the rear and 2 megapixel one on the front side. Among the connectivity options, there's Wireless 802.11b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth and Gyroscope. On the body of the tablet, you will find ports for Micro SD, Micro USB and headphone. At 580g weight, a large 7000mAh battery gives power to this tablet and its dimensions are given in the image below -

Those who wish to contribute to the Mozilla's development program should have a previous knowledge of Gecko/GFX, Gaia, UX, Productivity and Systems Apps. Then there is something called the "Firefox OS localizers" who can help in translating the tablet version of Firefox OS for global markets. Lastly and of course prominently will be the place for Testers and bug fixers for making the tablet reach the users in perfect shape. Mozilla will be updating the teams with Nightly builds too.

    look-ahead
There's a lot to look forward to for Mozilla fans in 2014. Till we receive the next update from Mozilla, let us know your thoughts on the Firefox OS reference tablet specs and your expectations in comments below.
