The old-style psychotherapy system includes patients to visit the psychotherapist for several days and make discussions for what had happened. However latest technologies has made the traditional system obsolete. Researchers at the Northwestern University have already started developing the technology called #-Link-Snipped-# for the above purpose.

The technology is intended to create a virtual therapist to monitor an individual’s mood for several days and make an intelligent report. In an interview in Chicago, researchers and psychologist #-Link-Snipped-# said that we are trying to develop independent algorithms for each user so that the algorithm can better suit the environment without creating any ambiguity.

These algorithms would use a person’s location, activity, social context and the activities he is indulged in. Further, these user specific data is used to make an assessment and conclude whether the user is normal or under depression. In case of depression, the smartphone alerts the family and friends. It provides automated text messages or even makes a phone call to make a suggestion, Mohr said.

Mobilyze uses data from various hardware resources which include sensors, Bluetooth, accelerometer, GPS and Wi-Fi. Till date, Mohr has tested the smartphone on eight patients and said that the device was able to alleviate their depression. Mohr even added, the patients agreed that at the end of the treatment they felt relaxed by getting suggestions from a phone rather than physically visiting any clinic.

Various other techniques have also sprout in the market targeting towards health and medical science. MoodKit, an app that uses cognitive therapy techniques to meliorate user’s mood by offering certain mood relaxing tips. In addition, Mohr has plans to execute this summer for the widespread testing of this technology. Hope you feel better this time.
