Mirror.ly Makes Changing Rooms Virtual For Online Retailers, Shoppers

Online retail industry is a prospering and proliferating business but when it comes to apparels, users are often dubious about the cogency of their decision as they are devoid of the choice of trying on the clothes online. On the other hand, going out to buy clothes is a tedious activity to many of us. Los Angeles Startup has developed Mirror.ly to overcome this problem, providing virtual fitting rooms for online retail stores.

Mirror.ly, will be available first in-store at partner retailers on digital displays, followed by releases on the web and iOS platforms. Mirror.ly works by taking a full-body scan of a consumer to produce a life-size virtual image of their body, emulating a mirror. By a simple swipe of hand, users can try on different clothing and view a 3D model of how the clothes would look on them, in terms of fitting,  look, and movement of the cloth. Mirror.ly will be equally advantageous for retailers as they can up-sell their products by advertising pre-selected styles for user.

While not much has been revealed by the company yet, it is speculated that Mirror.ly will be employing Kinect’s body and gesture recognition technology. Mirror.ly is expected to cost  a flat set-up fee for the retailer with a fixed commission on sales.
