Mikme Wireless Recording Microphone Goes Live On Indiegogo

Austrian software engineer Philipp Sonnleitner has taken the initiative to shake up the portable audio recording devices market with a revolutionary product that promises truly wireless recording of studio-quality audio. Unlike the mainstream portable audio recording devices that cost a few thousand rupees, Sonnleitner’s creation Mikme costs Rs. 18980 ($299) which is pretty expensive but you do get never-before-seen features that justify the hefty price tag. Let’s start with the way you can access the recorded audio from Mikme. Unlike devices from mainstream players where you have to plug-in the device into your computer to extract the recorded files, the recorded audio from Mikme is simultaneously stored on the 8GB internal storage and transmitted to the MIKME app on iOS devices. The Android app is currently under development.

Apart from smartphone and tablet access the Mikme is able to offer other connectivity options such wired USB for PCs, direct monitoring with headphones, pairing up with your DSLR camera or even serve as a microphone for your smartphone. This last connectivity feature is particularly brilliant because amateur video producers who rely on a smartphone’s cheap microphone or a GoPro will be able to use the Mikme to capture high quality 24 Bit audio resolution with a sampling frequency of up to 96 kHz. While the Mikme looks impressive from outside, it’s what inside that matters. The condenser capsule that captures the audio measures 1inch in diameter has been made out of gold-plated materials. Keep in mind that portable and USB microphones are equipped with inferior quality half inch electrets. So how does this result in the audio reproduction? Listen to the embedded video below that was made with iPhone 6 and Mikme. The team switches between iPhone 6 internal microphone and the Mikme Microphone back and forth.

Once you tap hold to record the Mikme shall listen to you play or speak and adjust the gain automatically. The 1000mAh battery inside every Mikme lasts for up to 7 hours of operation. The 8 GB internal memory space is able to store 180 hours of audio depending on the recording codec. The company has already managed to garner twice the amount of funds it was requesting on Indiegogo. While the cheapest early bird price of $169 is sold out, you can still get one by November 2015 for $249 which is still cheaper than the $299 retail price tag.
