Metro Rails In India To Get NFC Ticketing, Thanks To Nokia

Nokia India is reportedly in talks with the Indian Metro Rail projects for NFC (Near Field Communication) based ticketing services. Nokia seems to be rolling up its sleeves to make sure NFC gets established in India. The company has partnered with PayMate and leading banks to ensure a smooth rollout. The NFC initiative seems to be a part of Nokia's long term game plan in India because NFC enabled mobile phones are yet to find their way to Indian users.

NFC technology allows communication between two devices in closer proximity, usually a few centimeters. With the NFC ticketing enabled, user will just be able to tap the phone on the NFC machine to purchase tickets. The process will not only be speedier, but also help cutting down long queues.

We're curious to know how many of you currently own an NFC enabled device?
