Metal Purification From Ore By Thermal Reduction Using Aluminum As Reducing Agent?

Is there a process of metal purification from ore by thermal reduction using
aluminum as the reducing agent? Just like coal is used to reduce iron from ore, is it possible to reduce gold,silver or rare earth elements from ore?

    Which metal you want to purify? According to me Aluminium is a metal with good reducing properties.
