Attention all Mechies, this thread vies to be a comprehensive compilation of all the books required for undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering. I have tried to include all the good books. In case, there is one which i have left out, please let me know.
The Indian authors' names are mentioned above the broken line and the foreign authors' names below them.
P.S.: Special thanks to our CE members Issue, Chitti and CE Designer. Their previous discussions in the section helped me put this list together.
All credits go to the person whose brainchild it is - The_Big_K.

Now here are a couple of books, which are more than self-sufficient. buy them and you won't find the need to refer another book on the same subject:
DESIGN OF MACHINE COMPONENTS by MICHAEL ORTHWEIN
AUTOMECHANICS by CROUSE AND ANGLIN

In case you have selected "Design of jigs and fixtures" as an elective. then use "Tool design" by DONALDSON

how to download
@Ankita Katdare • 18 Sep, 2015
I recommend everyone to go to the book store and buy the hard copy of the book. Chances of a student reading curriculum related ebook (when everything else is demanding their attention) are really bleak.
By investing in a hard copy of the book, you are investing in your own studies and hence the future. If you don't have the money to buy the book at its MRP, go for a second-hand book. There are tons of websites in India that let you buy second hand books and chances are that your city too has a place where they sell used-books.
This is a great list put together by @ironman and @zaveri Do buy these books and read them. 👍
