Maruti Suzuki Y9T LCV To Compete Tata Ace And Mahindra Maxximo In India

What we proudly call the 'King of Small Cars', the company that has been selling the most number of passenger cars in India for decades is now foraying into something new. Yes, you guessed it right. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), India’s largest car maker is now entering the country's Light Commercial Vehicles segment with a new LCV temporarily codenamed and called Y9T. So, we can say that Maruti Suzuki Y9T is up against the existing large car makers Tata Motors who have Ace and Mahindra who have Maxximo. Both of these companies have been able to do great business with their commercial vehicles. With the launch of an inexpensive load carrier, MSIL is giving itself a head-start in a territory it is now debuting. It is a bit wrong to call it a debut though. Because Maruti is already selling a load carrier (with maximum payload capacity of 600 kgs) named 'Ravi' in Pakistan.
The Maruti Suzuki Y9T is going to be powered by a 800cc twin-cylinder diesel engine and news has it that MSIL has plans of beginning the production of this LCV at its Gujarat Facility. A lot of Research and Development is going-on on this one while we hear news that Maruti Suzuki's new R&D facility might become operational in Rohtak by next year. This looks like a step in the right direction, because the company needs to have in-house diesel enginers. The automobile blogs out there have pointed that the Y9T could be based on the Maruti Eeco’s platform and could feature similar front end styling.
Moreover, the company is also working on a naturally aspirated variant of the engine that should power this LCV and another turbo-charged variant for small cars is also under an advanced stage of development. The good news is that Maruti Suzuki will soon have diesel engines to the 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine and 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine. We are expecting the mini truck called Y9T to be launched in 2015.
