All kinds of gadgets, right from mobile phones to wrist watches are getting smarter and smarter everyday. How about a smart pen? A European startup, LearnShift is creating a pen which would totally change the usual concept and prupose of a pen.

The Lernstift digital pen will vibrate and warn the user on bad handwriting or on a grammatical error. Basically, this gadget would be targeted to teach kids with feedback on the go. It has a ballpoint pen inside and it can be used on any surface or no surface at all.

The pen has a "Calligraphy Mode" where it vibrates once with every incorrect letter. It also has an "Orthography Mode" where it vibrates once on a spelling error and twice on a grammatical error. It would be powered by Linux, which makes it more like a miniature smartphone. The future versions of the gadget would include features like dynamic pressure sensor (to know whether the user is pressing too hard) and maybe a WiFi connection to send data to other devices.

The pen is in process of manufacturing and the first stage product would include motion sensors and a word recognition software. It will be made available to the public in August.
