Kshitij 2013 - IIT Kharagpur Feb 1-4, 2013 [Event Details]

IIT Kharagpur's mega techno-management event - Kshitij 2013 is here. With more than 40 events related to science, technology as well as management, Kshitij 2013 in collaboration with esteemed institutions like ASME, IMechE, ASHRAE, ACM and IEEE, this year's event is scheduled from 1st to 4th February 2013.
Engineers here would be glad to know that registrations for this event have already begun.

Amongst the many competitions and events, here's a quick look at the recent updates on their official website -
Kshitij 13 is now under the auspices of UNESCO.
The problem statements of the new events B Consigliere,Smart Fields , Vision 2030 , Robo-Zest '13 , Race Pulse and Bay Striderhave been uploaded.
The problem statement of the event The Verdict has been uploaded.
The tutorial of the events Race Pulse , Laws Of Motion , Kryotech and Bay Strider have been uploaded.

Let us take a look at some of the major events scheduled for Kshitij 2013 in upcoming replies.

Here we go -

Under Robo-Zest 13 - The participants should build an autonomous robot that can follow the given path in minimum possible time. The aim of the event is to check the stability and sensing capabilities of the robot in comparison with other opponents.
There will be in-all three stages under RoboZest 13 -
Stage 1: Workshop Round to be held at different Nodal centres in all over India. During the workshop ‘Robotic Kit’ will be provided by the organizing body of this event to each and every group that would consist 4-5 Participant at free of cost. The duration of Robotics Workshop will be of 2 Days. The workshop will be delivered by RoboSpecies Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
Stage 2: Prelims Round of ROBO-ZEST '13 at the Nodal Centres
Just after the workshop a Mega Competition Nodal final of Robo-Zest’13 will be held. The winners of this final will get a Certificate of Merit from RoboSpecies Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and will get a chance to participate in the Finals of Robo-Zest’13 at Kshitij 2013, IIT Kharagpur.

Stage 3: Finals of ROBO-ZEST '13 would be held at IIT Kharagpur during Kshitij 2013 (01st - 04th Feb 2013)

    The General Rules of the contest are:
    • The deadline for submission of the event is 15th December 2012.
    • A maximum of three participants can combine to form a team from some educational institution.
    Event Specific Rules:
    • Make module with PCB.
    • Soldering must be done by participants.
    • Do not direct print the PCB.
    • In case of IC with SMD packaging, fabricated break-out boards can be used which are connected to main circuit using berg sticks. However the overall circuit has to be soldered.
    • You may use ready made transmitter modules and sensors.
    • Round 2 presentation should be short - about working module which focuses on the design & implementation methodologies.
    Stage 1: Abstract should be uploaded in PDF format with :
    • Your team ID.
    • The basic idea used.
    • All major components used.
    • All circuit diagrams.
    • Explanation of the circuit diagrams and steps.
    • Deadline for submission: 15th December 2012.
    • If you can't upload your abstract - send us a CD.
    Stage 2:
    • Create final modules and come with them.
    • This round will have presentation + a Q/A session by the judges. (10 minutes presentation and display of module + 5 min Q/A session by the judges)

    Under the 'Laws of Motion' competition, one of the flagship events, certified by IMechE, it calls upon enthusiasts and engineers alike to design a RC motor powered aircraft!
    There are cash prizes worth Rs, 25,000/- to be won here.

    Team Size: Maximum of 5
    General Rules:
    • Participants should bring complete kits to IIT Kharagpur, but a pair of receiver and transmitter (Rx and Tx) will be provided by organizers.
    • Attendance before the commencement of the event is compulsory.
    • The aircraft would be checked for its safety before the commencement of the event.
    • The participants will have to send the video and pictures of their model by 4th January 2013 to the undersigned head keeping the subject as “Laws of Motion_Team Id”.

    Another competition is the 'The Verdict', is a National Level moot court, competition which is a simulation of a court room proceedings where participants argue over a hypothetical case before distinguised judges.
    The learning process for a moot court competition begins with extensive research on the subject, followed by writing of submissions or appellate briefs and finally presentation of the oral arguments in the mock court room.

    For this contest,
    • The last date for submission of Written Memorials is 4th January 2013
    • The results of the submissions will be declared on 11th January 2013
    • The moot court competition will be held in IIT Kharagpur from 1st to 3rd February 2013
    The prizes for The Verdict are as follows -
    • Winning Team
      Certificates to all team members and cash prize of Rs. 25,000 to the team
    • Runner- Up Team
      Certificates to all team members and cash prize of Rs. 15,000 to the team
    • Best Speaker
      Certificate and cash prize of Rs. 5,000
    • Best Memorial
      Certificate and cash prize of Rs. 5,000
    Another Event called the 'IDP', which goes with a catch line -
    “As yet, the wind is an untamed and unharnessed force; and quite possibly one of the greatest discoveries hereafter to be made, will be the taming, and harnessing of it.”

    This year, the teams have to design a blade for a wind turbine with the main motive of improving the efficiency. The blade should have a power rating of 2.0MW, including the following specifications:
    • Blade Length : 50m
    • Blade Weight : Upper Specification Limit 9500 kg
    • Aero Efficiency : 50%
    The participants are also required to address the following:
    • Blades can be designed with any of the available material(s) and can have options to enhance performance. It must also include Aero and Mechanical Design Cycle.
    • Design evaluation should include strength and stability (e.g. buckling) assessment corresponding to 2.0MW operation loads.
    • Details of materials used, manufacturing and transportation skids on Indian roads should also be mentioned.

    Participants need to propose at least three distinct concepts.
    Design Guidelines are available in IEC61400 and GL2010.

    IIT Kharagpur's Kshitij has another event The WOODSTOCK is a real stock market game played with virtual money. The players face real time share price fluctuations and trade accordingly. The game ensures firsthand experience of the real market without the associated risk of losing money. This event allows you to understand the vagaries of the stock exchange and gain experience before you take the markets head-on.
    In this event, The player with the maximum net worth will be adjudged the winner.

    In Kshitij 2013's 'Tech Quiz' there will be a team size of 4 members and the general rules followed will be - that the quiz will be held in two rounds - both these rounds will be held back to back at IIT Kharagpur during Kshitij.
    There will initially be a written elimination round, with the top teams getting to participate in the finals and The decision of the quiz master will be final and binding.

    The registrations for the tech quiz are currently open and
    • The entries are restricted to students currently pursuing education in a recognized institute.
    • The participants may be asked to furnish the supporting documents at a later stage to prove the aforementioned criteria.
    • Students from different colleges can form a single team.
    • Each team can contain a maximum of four participants.
    1st Prize : Rs. 10,000
    2nd Prize : Rs. 6,000
    3rd Prize : Rs. 4,000
