It will not be long before the Burj Khalifa loses its record for being the world’s tallest building. The Saudi Arabia’s kingdom holding company has recently approved the plan to build a building called the Kingdom Tower at Obhur just outside Jeddah.
The building will rise to a height of 1001m i.e. 173m higher than Dubai’s Burj Khalifa and thus gain the record for the world’s tallest building. The vertical escalator will take around 12 minutes to travel the entire height. The building with a floor area of 38 million square feet will house various offices, a hotel and some residential units.
It would be situated at the focal point of the new community spanning over 8.9 square miles that has been planned in that area to house 80,000 people and an additional 1 million visitors.
The tower will be designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. It is to be noted that smith had worked with SOM in deigning the burj khalifa. The structural engineering firm in charge here is Thornton Tomasetti, headquartered at New York. they have been involved in notable projects such as Petronas Towers, Taipei 101, Times Square Tower, Yankee Stadium, etc.
um and Beijing national aquatics center.
With all this wonderful team of engineers and architects the expectations on the outcome of this project is high.
