The imagery sent by ISRO's machines in space will be quite useful in mapping all the rivers in the country and help the government keep check on illegal sand mining. Mr. Prakash Javadekar, who handles the environment, climate change and forests ministry in the central government said that the government will be working with ISRO to draft a plan that will make use of images sent by ISRO's satellites. Javadekar was speaking with the reporters at the Janata Darbar organised in Pune, Maharashtra.

The government wants to map all the river beds across the borders. National Information System for Climate and Environment Studies aka NICES as part of National Remote Sensing Center aka NRSC have been asked to participate in the project to provide the appropriate technology and aid to the government. Javadekar believes that the technology will be very useful in keeping round the clock check on illegal activities of the sand mafia. A workshop is being organised in Delhi where the details of the plan will be made available.

We'd like to ask all our fellow engineering friends to share their ideas on various ways the Government can use satellite imagery to maintain environmental balance. We look forward to receiving your views.

In Malaysia, we have problems with deforestation & haze (from open burning). Remote Sensing satellites would definitely help locate and curb these activities.

An imperative technique to control soil-related scams in India. Technology has finally taken heights in a way to control illegalty. This could be a modern and technical way to control corruption in this country. There are ample things to which satellite imagery can be applied. In India, this technique could be applied to control mining scams that are predominant in some parts of Deccan plateau. Other fields include, deforestation, illegal cultivation practices (such as spash and burn cultivation).
