ISRO Allows Internet In Indian Trains! #HappyIndians

The Indian Space Research Organization has given its consent to allow the KU band frequency for using the satellite for Internet in Indian trains, says the #-Link-Snipped-# report. Senior Railway Ministry official confirmed the news that select Indian trains can now hope to have Internet facility. The proposal to offer Internet in moving trains via satellite was submitted by the Indian Railways about two years ago, but the decision was pending because of the much awaited clearance from #-Link-Snipped-#. However, with #-Link-Snipped-# showing green flag to the proposal, Internet savvy Indians will now get high speed Internet access in moving trains.

Until now, the only way to have Internet access is through regular GPRS/EDGE/3G connections via mobile phones or data cards. The pilot project will begin soon with an investment of Rs. 6.3 crore. The Howrah - Rajdhani Express will be the first one to get Internet connectivity. During the pilot project the passengers will not be charged for the Internet connectivity. A Mumbai based company (name unknown) has been given the contract to install a custom-made antenna on the train and the coaches will be connected through Wi-Fi routers. The procedure to obtain Internet access will be simple. The users will have to dial the number provided by TTE. Upon dialing the number, username and password required to access the Internet will be texted to the user.

We love Indian Railways! Thank you, ISRO!
