IPv6 World Launch Day Is Today - The Future Is Here!

The dawn of a new century in the history of internet begins today. It is the official launch day of IPv6 and it is being celebrated all over the world by various top websites, ISPs and equipment manufacturers by making a shift to the new protocol. The Official #-Link-Snipped-# points out that there are nearly 11 billion internet enabled devices being used by 2.5 billion people around the globe. And obviously we are running out of IP addresses as the current protocol had space for accommodating  just 2^32 (around 4.3 billion) addresses.

IPv6 World Launch Day Is Today - The Future Is Here!

With the introduction of IPv6 we can now have 2^128 (about 340 trillion) addresses, enough to last generations. In 2011, Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), a governing body for allocation of IP addresses, had a tough time allocating IP addresses as they we exhausted creating a situation for devices to share a particular address, which is unsafe for internet usage. But now with trillions of IP addresses we do not have to worry about that for at least a century now.

Many companies and services have already implemented IPv6 and from now on Google's services will be available on this network for any user.
