  • Idea Cellular, one of the leading telecom network providers in India has launched the next generation Net Setter 3G dongle with a price tag of Rs. 2160. The dongle promises to offer a maximum of 21.6 Mbps speed in all Idea Cellular covered 3G circles. If you are located in Maharashtra, Goa, MP, Chattisgarh, AP or Kerala; you should be good to go right away. Those who care about uploading stuff to the Internet may be informed that the upload speed will be about 5.76 Mbps.

The dongle is compatible with your machines running Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows RT, uBuntu and OSX. We don't know whether earlier versions of Windows aka Windows 7 or Vista are supported. When the 3G networks (HSPA) isn't available, the dongle will turn to EDGE and GPRS for lower speed connections. As you'd expect; the dongle supports a microSD card that lets you boost up memory to about 32 GB.

It looks like Idea Cellular is trying to woo 3G users. We've been really happy with the quality of network Idea offers and the speeds won't let you down ever. Be aware that Idea even slashed the 3G data rates a few days ago; but they're still 'too much'. If you really care for the connectivity and good speeds though; your choices are very limited.

The real competition will from from 4G - which is being offered by Airtel in limited number of cities. When the Big Boss Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Jio enters the game; things will surely become a lot more interesting. We're keeping our fingers crossed. In the mean-time, we look forward to your reviews of this new dongle from Idea.
