Hybrid Wind Turbine

Project Abstract / Summary : Rapid increase in global energy requirements has resulted in considerable attention towards energy generation from the renewable energy sources. In order to meet renewable energy targets, harnessing energy from all available resources including those from urban environment is required. Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) are seen as potential way of utilizing urban energy sources. The invention refers to the field of wind power engineering particularly to the vertical axis rotor type wind turbine. The wind turbine has three blades each placed at 120 degree and is fastened. This vertical turbine is developed so that it can even perform on low wind speed. The wind energy; available in abundance must be harvested by use of VAWT. The VAWT is currently much efficient than HAWTs and is practically simpler & significantly cheaper to build and maintain. They also have other inherent advantages, such as they are always facing wind, which might make them a significant player in our quest for cheaper, cleaner renewable resources of electricity. This project includes a technology enhancement for today’s world which is simpler and cheaper. The instantaneous torque output varies significantly when a gust of air is applied to the turbine. Furthermore the torque outputs during accelerating and decelerating flows vary, highlighting the effect of transient phenomena. This abrupt change in the instantaneous torque output of the turbine may give rise to highly transient loads on the turbine’s structure which may induce heavy stresses on the turbine leading to structural failure.

5. High Electricity Cost [ Domestic and Commercial]
6. Affecting Environment
7. Less awareness of Non Conventional Energy Sources.

* Importance/ Objectives:
1. To provide an alternative to the use of conventional energy sources.
2. To study parameters that can help wind turbine to generate power even at low wind speed.
3. To overcome the parameter affecting the proper orientation of the Vertical Axis Wind Turbine.
4. To develop a prototype at a minimum cost.

*Future:
1. To Commercialize the product.

i.e., Use it at
-Building roofs in cities,
-Environment favorable buildings,
-BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit Station)/ Bus stations,
-Bungalows or houses surrounded by malls or hospitals
-Dependent small power stations

irrespective of wind speed available at these sites.

2. To obtain STABLE and RELIABLE output in the form of Electricity;
For:
lighting, household electrical appliances, beacon light, microwave communication, equipment, meters.

3. To make its use for energy saving techniques.
And extract that energy in case of emergency like in hospitals during power failure; instead of using a generator.

4. To encourage everyone for adopting various energy saving techniques and inviting new ideas for better inventions in the field of clean energy.

5. Give the product a competing price.

6. To reduce the dependency of nation on other countries for its energy needs; to help in development of country.
