Google Acquires Popular iOS And OSX E-Mail Client, Sparrow

Earlier this morning, in an official post on #-Link-Snipped-#, Google has announced the attainment of the famous OSX and iOS E-mail client and integration with Gmail. Sparrow's developers are now set to join the Gmail team, to accomplish, what Google describes as "a bigger vision."

While one cannot offer a prognosis on what Google aims to achieve with Sparrow integration, what is confirmed right now is the inevitable withdrawal of Sparrow's further participation as an OSX and iOS client. A Google spokesperson has affirmed that Sparrow mail clients will not see any future updates though will be supported and fixed for critical bugs and security issues. The Sparrow client for OSX has been around since 2011 but the iOS client is relatively new and therefore has less advanced features. In such a scenario where maturation looks bleak, support for features like push e-mail seem improbable.

It is speculated that Google might be planning a desktop e-mail client, which has been a success for Sparrow. Though, this would be a surprising move considering Google's long and fruitful stand on browser-based applications, completely independent of operating systems. Another possibility might be to improve on Google's existing email client for iOS with necessary support from Sparrow.
