GigaPan Time Machine Photography Tool - Time Travel Now Possible

GigaPan Time Machine is a photography tool developed by Carnegie Mellon University in collaboration with NASA Ames Intelligent Robotics Group and GigaPan Systems with support from Google. Gigapan technology came out in 2009 and many creative souls turned towards it. What this technology does is that it brings together hundreds of photos to make an ultra high resolution image that you can zoom in/out of.

This data could not previously be interactively explored at full spatial and temporal resolution. In simpler words, Gigapan Time Machine let's you create large pixel videos that you can play forwards and backwards at variety of speeds.

You can zoom in and out of early universe phenomena, track stinkbugs during plant growth, and follow the intricacies of brain veins. You can even make your own time machines. The results that we have are such as the growth of a plant or cell division processes captured with high speed Giga-pixel resolution cameras. Gigapan Time Machine has added the fourth dimension of moving through time as an addition to it's previous project.

This project which is rightly called the 'Time Machine' is built on HTML5 and what's the good part is that it doesn't need plugins to run & doesn't put any strain on limited bandwidths.

If you are a scientist or hobbyist looking to use this cool technology contact the folks at Gigapan. They will stack your photos and register them across time and publish it on their website that will lead to interactive explorations for the public.

Another one of it's features that I would like to shed light upon is the 'Time Warps'. If you have your domain specialists, they can write both general annotations and spatio-temporal trajectories that lead viewers through guided tours across space and time.
