Want to charge your EV? May be you should go to a charging station if you are away from your home. Then wait for a few hours, till your vehicle is charged and return back. Don't forget that if you own an EV of a particular company and if you happen to reach charging station installed by a different manufacturer, you may end up not charging your vehicle owing to the fact that the charging nozzle may not be compatible with your EV! This is perhaps the most irritating thing for people with busy schedule. How would it be if the charging itself would be compatible and less time consuming?

Recently seven auto manufacturers Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Porsche and Volkswagen agreed to develop a #-Link-Snipped-# for all EVs across Europe and US. The move is set to bring innovation the concept of charging. If everything goes as per plans then we can see a standardized and fast EV charging system initially in the two continents and later in the remaining world.

The details of the pact are however unclear. It cannot be said that whether the companies will operate this system on a partnership basis or independently. Hence it would be unwise to comment on this issue right now. Earlier the #-Link-Snipped-# had resolved to have electric charging stations on the lines of Gasoline stations and #-Link-Snipped-# at its plant in North America with the help of #-Link-Snipped-#. The present one is however a major step in standardizing the electric charging system.

The regulatory attempt will be based on the preferences of the customers across the two continents. The seven auto giants have agreed to use HomePlug Green Phy as a communication protocol in this process. The companies believe that after this move people will be more interested in getting an EV which is set to become an indispensable option for Gasoline and diesel fed variants.

It is interesting to note that this regulatory charging system is backward compatible with J1772 connector standard in US and the more or less is the same case with Europe but here the system is based on IEC 62196 Type 2. The harmonized EV charging system can be expected to be rolled out in near future. It will anyways solve the most important problem, “Will the charging connector fit on my EV?".
