Engineers Design Applique Vehicle Armour That Withstands Multiple Bullet Hits

Researchers working for defense units across the world are working on building armour that can better protect their soldiers against ballistic strikes. Now, a team of engineers from Lockheed Martin UK and Surrey University have come up with a new applique vehicle armour that wont falter even after being hit by multiple bullets. One of the engineering doctorate research engineers from Surrey, Andrew Harris, who is working on this project, shared that many light-armoured vehicles use ceramic armour because it is as tough as metal, while being super lightweight. But it isn't flawless. Being made of a hard front-faced material like alumina or silicon carbide, the bullet's impact transfers a lot of energy into the ceramic. This shock causes the ceramic tiles to come off the backing material, therefore the armor becomes good only for a single hit.

Therefore, in order to make it more durable, they set out to make the ceramic armour heavier by improving its bond strength and the results they got very nothing but impressive! Taking it ahead from here, the team now has a proprietary method of treating the adhesive and pre-conditioning ceramic surfaces prior to bonding. It is only a matter of time now when such armour will be produced in commercial quantities not just for the vehicles, for the personnel too. The defense teams can now go get'em.
