DRDO Training or Internship For B.E. / B.Tech Students - 2023!

Following are the important points to keep in mind when applying for DRDO internship.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is an agency of the Government of India, responsible for the development of technology for use by the military. Internships at DRDO can be a valuable opportunity to learn and contribute in various areas of research and development.
Here are some things to keep in mind about a DRDO Internship:
Eligibility: The eligibility criteria for a DRDO internship may vary based on the requirements of the specific project or department. Typically, candidates pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in science, engineering, or related fields are eligible.
Application Process: DRDO does not have a standardised application process for internships. In general, you'll need to contact the specific laboratory or department you're interested in, and send your resume along with a cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications.
Timelines: Internship timelines may vary based on the requirements of the specific project. Usually, internships range from a few weeks to a few months.
Work Scope: As an intern at DRDO, you'll likely be involved in research, development, and testing activities. This could include theoretical research, lab work, data analysis, software development, and other activities.
Confidentiality: Because DRDO is involved in defence-related research, some of the work you do may be confidential or sensitive. You will likely be required to sign a confidentiality agreement and adhere to strict security protocols.
Skills: Successful candidates are typically strong in their respective academic fields, and also possess good problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and a willingness to learn.
Value: Internships at DRDO are highly valued. Not only do they provide practical experience in defence technology research and development, but they also offer exposure to cutting-edge technology and high-impact projects.
Networking: An internship at DRDO offers a chance to meet and work with leading researchers in your field. This can help build your professional network, which could be valuable for your future career.
Follow up: After the internship, stay connected with the professionals you worked with at DRDO. These connections could lead to job opportunities or collaborations in the future.
Now, let us look at the career opportunities for engineering students after DRDO internship.
Career Opportunities after DRDO Internship
Continued Work with DRDO: If you performed well during your internship and built strong relationships with your colleagues and supervisors, there may be opportunities to continue working with DRDO in a full-time capacity.
Other Defense Sector Opportunities: Besides DRDO, there are other organisations in the defence sector where you could potentially work. These include Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), and other public sector undertakings (PSUs).
Civil Services: If you are interested in public administration, you could consider preparing for the Indian Civil Services Examination conducted by UPSC. Many engineers work in various capacities within the government, including in the Indian Engineering Services (IES).
Higher Education: After an internship with DRDO, you might choose to further specialise in your field by pursuing a master's degree or a PhD. This could lead to opportunities in academia or research.
Private Sector: Many private companies value the experience gained through an internship at DRDO. Roles can vary widely, depending on your field of engineering. These could range from roles in technology companies, research and development departments, manufacturing industries, IT industries, to startups.
Startups and Entrepreneurship: If you have a novel idea and are interested in starting your own venture, the experience and knowledge you've gained at DRDO could be invaluable. There are many opportunities for entrepreneurs in the technology and defense sectors.
Teaching and Academia: If you enjoy teaching and research, then you could consider a career in academia. Having practical work experience at DRDO can make you a more effective and knowledgeable teacher.
Consultancy: With the technical knowledge gained from the internship, engineers can also explore consultancy roles which require specific domain expertise.
If you have specific questions about DRDO internship, let me know.

Ankita KatdareOr here goes the text:
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I think this is something that many engineering students are looking for.
I recently heard from a friend who works at DRDO as a junior scientist that it's mostly through trial and error. Meaning that anyone applying for internship should write a letter to the specific department's DRDO Lab Director and get it signed on it from your college or University HOD (Head of Department) or Dean and send it through FAX.
Students should obviously highlight their skills and mention the papers written or presented. Don't forget to add your contact details.
DRDO works for the following mentioned departments of military technology:
- Aeronautics
- Armaments
- Combat
- Vehicle
- Electronics
- Advanced computing
- Simulation and life science
- Naval System
All the best. -
Ankita KatdareI recently checked the DRDO website hoping that there could be an update to this discussion. I found that DRDO has now set up a page. Check:

Apparently, the receive many, many requests for summer internship at DRDO, industrial training at DRDO and final year project work at DRDO.
DRDO Labs are not all located in the same location. They are spread out across the country. There is no centralized system that can monitor your application/resume and send it to appropriate department.
Therefore, DRDO officials want you to choose any one of the DRDO Departments from the following:
- Armaments
- Materials
- Electronics
- Heavy Vehicles
- Missiles
- Life Sciences
- Aeronautics
- Naval Systems
- Combat Engineering
- MED
Only the Director of the lab can authorize any industrial trainings.
DRDO wants you to directly contact the Director of the concerned lab through the Head of your College/Institute.
Anyone here applying? Anyone has any queries? Please put your questions/comments below. -

mam can you please suggest me as i am civil final semesterAnkita KatdareDRDO or "Defense Research and Development Organization" is an apex institution of central government which co-ordinates the activities of many research laboratories spread across the country.
These laboratories are doing research in diverse fields ranging from life sciences, electronics and materials development to missiles, armament and armored and heavy vehicles.
I have read that one needs to contact the individual laboratory as per the subject of his/her specialization.
For the training in DRDO you have to send there NOC (no objection certificate) from the college's Training & Placement Department and a request application in the favour of DRDO. After receiving the acknowledgment or approval letter from DRDO, one can begin his/her training.
If anyone has complete details please post here.
Details regarding placement can be seen here: #-Link-Snipped-# -

#-Link-Snipped-#â Looks like not a lot of members have done their internship from RCI Hyderabad. From the reviews of some of the jobs sites, it is clear that the interns get to work on a lot of interesting projects during their internship at RCI. A typical day starts with security checks and the staff and mentors seem to be helpful. However , there are certain limitations for access to specific labs inside RCI, DRDO.Â
Do share your experience of working as an intern at RCI.
