Do companies still organize open-house walk-ins?

I've been recently told that there are no walk-ins organized by the companies. Most of the recruitment happens through campus. Gone are the days when companies like TCS, Cognizant, Wipro, Persistent would declare walk-ins and candidates would flood-in with their resumes and those who qualified would get a job.

Is that practice still in place?

Or walk-ins are organized only for referred candidates (an employee of the company refers his/her friend etc.)?
