Disco: Secret Group Texting Application Within Google

Google has already made its way to the pinnacle and yet it is in no mood to slow down the pace. After covering the widest of the horizons in the networking field, Google seems to have entered in the domain of group messaging which was untouched up till now. Google is heard to have entered in the group messaging domain with Disco which is an iPhone application and a website. This has made the group text messaging free and easy. You can make as many groups as possible and start chatting. These are some of the features of the first version of its kind:
  • Category: social networking
  • Released on 24th march 2011
  • Version 1.0
  • Size : 4.8 MB
  • Language: English
  • Seller: Slide, Inc.
  • Compatible with iPhone and requires iOS 4.0 and later.
In the last [IMG]year’s Domainfest, Google had bought the Disco.com domain at $225K which it utilizes now for the group texting purpose. Even after the application hit the store yesterday people barely noticed it because it was made by “Slide”. Google had acquired slide in August 2010 for $ 182 million. Slide has made many Iphone applications but Super poke was the last one before Google acquired slide. Even after this, slide has been running as a separate autonomous project within Google. Inspite of this fact Google owns the messaging application.

We can say that the disco website is better than this application. This is because there is no complicated procedure or any compatibility issues to send a message to the group. Moreover the messages are delivered well in time. We can also add or remove groups, manage the groups and edit the user profile from the website. With the iPhone it functions in the following way. When we open the application and send a message, a normal IPhone SMS window is opened. This will not show you the messages which you had sent previously. The surprising fact is that there is no android version up till now. We can anticipate how autonomously slide must have been working in the Google domains now. This shows that Google is definitely looking for the phone developers to built applications within Google itself.

Great going Google! Personally I would prefer messaging from the website than to run such a complicated  (with less facilities as compared to the website) application from the phone. After all it is all about easy user interface and the ease of using the service.
