Detecting satellite reception.

Hey I was curious if anyone here might have some expereince in detecting satellite reception. Specificly television broadcasts.

For example is there any documentation on 'how' to read the packets of information being sent (recieved from the satellite), in order to decipher what satellite it is, ect.

My internet searches have yet to be of much help in figuring any of this out.

Any takers on this yet? I know they send out a indentifying code, my satellite box even can tell me the satellite id numbers....

Well so far I have figured that the signal is between 950 and 2250mhz, which is shared with alot of various devices, I dont really know if perhaps each satellite is registered with a specific frequency, which is compared to a known database or if like you say, they send out their own identifier.

Guess I can start by making the circuit which will ignore the noise under and over the acceptable range, and then just do my homework on the rest while testing.

The frequency you figured out here is that which reaches your set top box. It is called intermediate frequency(IF). It is an intermediate between yor LNB and set top box.

Actually the case is different.😀 The most commonly used bands for telivision broadcasting are C band and Ku band. C band is lowest and Downlink freq is 3.7 to 4.2 GHz and that of Ku band is 10.7 to 13.25GHz.

These signals are concentrated on the LNB by your dish. In LNB a low noise amplification takes place(it means amplification withot any distortion). LNB modifies the signal to be in the range of IF. For more information you may visit #-Link-Snipped-#
