The construction of the Crystal Tower which will be located in the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) began in October, 2010. The contract of the construction of the $160 million towers was taken up by Specialized Contracting Company. The architect consultant for this project is Henning Larsen Architects.
The project consists of two towers leaning away from each other. But they will be connected at the bottom by a mutual podium. One tower is 22 storeys tall with a footprint area of 1000m<sup>2</sup> and another tower is 33 storeys tall and has a footprint area of 1400m<sup>2</sup>. The tower is located between the Financial Plaza (financial centre of the 50-tower business development) and the Wadi, which is the pedestrian walkway.

The tower will have a mixed use. It has residential spaces, office spaces and multi purpose podium with a terrace overlooking the garden. It will also house a sky gym in the 22<sup>nd</sup> level and a swimming pool in the 33<sup>rd</sup> level.
The other features of the tower include the underground parking and its cooling system. The car parking is provided in 5 underground levels. These underground levels will also have the plant room, and serve other such purposes. The skywalks and other areas within the building are air conditioned to cool the building and protect it from the adverse weather conditions outside.
The project faced problems due to lack of space. It meant less working space in the city where there are many more towers present. “We have the substructure completed, and are now on the fourth floor of the smaller tower, and the third floor of the taller tower,†#-Link-Snipped-# Joseph Felfly, project manager. “We have also finished the fit-out for the basement. Logistics is still a problem, though everything is happening here on-site at once, including other towers and tunneling.â€
The progress construction of the tower is on track despite the difficulties and the finishing of the ground floor and the lower levels has started and this part is expected to finish by January, 2012.
