Craig Pollock's Company To Supply Formula 1 Engines

“It is fairer as the quicker driver should be in front not the one that is just driving in front because of tactical reasons”-Michael Schumacher. How true are these words of F1 legend! Last year when F1 declared to change rules for F1 racing, there were actually a lot of speculations over this decision. The important clause was the reintroduction of Kers and introduction of movable rear wing.

#-Link-Snipped-#Citing rule changes, for formula 1 racing, Craig Pollock has established a new company. Pollock is the former manager of Jacques Villeneuve, the only Canadian to win the Indianapolis 500 or the F1 Drivers' title. F1 had changed its rules for formula in December last year. Pollock hence started a company which would manufacture engines according to those changed rules. He has named his company as “Propulsion Universelle et Recuperation d'Energie” also abbreviated as PURE.  Currently for 12 teams, there are four suppliers namely Cosworth, Ferrari, Renault and Mercedes. Now there will be five with PURE as a latest addition. However the chances that all of these existing four can continue even in 2013 are bleak.

His newly formed company seems to have gathered a few good people. One of them is Christian Contzen. Contzen was the managing director of French company Renault, and had joined as an after-sales representative in Brussels in the year 1960. Since then he has contributed a huge in making Renault a leading contender in the world of automobiles engine suppliers in 90’s. PURE is aiming to get a technological edge over other manufacturers. The initial funding however for this project is coming from Pollock himself. Pollock thinks that he should first set up everything in place only after that he would be approaching the teams with his engines. PURE seems to be confident that most of the team would want to switch suppliers and Craig wants to tap the same thing.

Pollock seems to have a good backing of FIA. FIA president Jean Todt recently wished him and his company success and good luck. Todt is of the opinion that rule changes are actually to boost production of green technology at a low cost.

The other changes in rules are Tyres, introduction of movable rear wing etc. In Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2010, Sebastian Vettel could make the first place because even though he was slower at turnings, Renault could easily reduce the drag on vehicle and thus would make up for the speed. The same thing perhaps would not be seen again in next formula 1 races because of a rule.

Then there are tyres too in F1’s rule book. F1 has ordered a new manufacturer Pirelli to supply tyres which wear away faster than normal. Many drivers have complained but now everything seems to have cooled down back to normal. It seems that even after the rule changes many things will happen but the one with determination will win of course, because it is the winner who does not think of anything else but success. Also it is Craig Pollock’s first experience of manufacturing car engines. So if pure succeeds as a good engine with new regulations, then I hope that we would be able to see a more cost effective and more efficient engines on tracks than the existing ones.
