Try avoiding Punmia and Khurmi's books friends!
A K Jain, Gopal Ranjan are good authors. P.C Varghese is okay but his book contains lot of typographical errors.
For environmental engineering no Indian author has written a good book.
I suggest you to check out NPTEL website for good literature on the subjects.
