BSNL's new broadband plan offering 300GB of data, unlimited night calling at Rs 249

After the aggressive entry of Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio with the Welcome offer and now the controversial Summer Surprise offer, the Indian telcos are in a tariff war trying to retain their customer base. Now the state-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to counter the tough competition from Reliance Jio by launching the BB Unlimited 249 plan, which entitles its user to enjoy up to 300GB of hi-speed data for the next six month along with unlimited free calls between 9PM to 7AM to any network in India. After the end of six months, users will be migrated to a BBG Combo ULD plan which will cost Rs 499.

Under the new BB Unlimited 249 plan, customers can enjoy unlimited download and uploads where the first 10GB will be offered in hi-speed 2Mbps and post that the speed will be reduced to 1Mbps. That works out to be 300GB of hi-speed data per month, making it one of the cheapest broadband plans available right now. And the best part is the data balance carryover feature which allows any unused data from the 10GB daily limit to be carried forward the next day.

Apart from that, the Rs 249 plan also allows its customers at no additional fixed charge to make unlimited free calls between 9 PM to 7 AM including all Sundays, to any network across the country.

It is worth noting that the new plan is valid only for new customers and as per the #-Link-Snipped-#it will be made available to all circles except J&K and Andaman & Nicobar. The plan is also for a limited period of time though the last date to signup for availing it is currently unknown.

The new broadband plan from BSNL is seen as a result of the disruption caused by Reliance Jio's entry in the telecom industry. Now gone are those days, when you would pay Rs 250 for a gigabyte of data on your smartphone and when the internet was largely unaffordable for the poorer section of the society. With aggressive pricing of the data plans, the country is all geared up to realize the Prime Minister's dream of Digital India.
